Rabbit Hole

Director: John Cameron Mitchell, Main cast Nicole KidmanAaron Eckhart and Dianne Wiest

How to deal with the worst parents’ nightmare: the loss of a child? The movie tries to answer the question with a realistic view of what life is: always bittersweet and never monotone. The strong and measured performance of the main cast prevents slips into the melodramatic and avoids cliches. — 7/10

También la lluvia (Even the rain)

The parallel stories of indios oppressed in a film on Cristoforo Colombo and the citizens of Cochabamba, Bolivia, who fights against the privatisation of their water supply. Bernal is the film’s director with a vision and Tosar is the cynical producer…and the latter is the real scene-stealer!  — 7.5/10

Biutiful

Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu, Main cast: Javier BardemMaricel Álvarez and Hanaa Bouchai

Bardem’s character struggles between his role of responsible father of two with a bi-polar wife and his “job” as “investor” in borderline legal activities in Barcelona. Interesting views of the underground world of illegal immigrants from Africa and China in Europe.  Bardem delivers a great performance, as always when is not forced in the role of the sexy hunk (Mare Adentro, No Country for Old Men, Before Night Falls, etc.) — 8/10.

If you like  Iñárritu’s style Amores Perros and 21 Grams are a must-see!
